Keeper’s Round

Security & data handling

Clear about what is protected now.

Shoot locations and farm records can be sensitive. This page separates the protections already present in the pilot from capabilities still being developed.

Current scope: the pilot is designed for one user on one device at a time. Secure multi-user access and a web portal are not enabled.

Protections in the current pilot

  • Operational JSON records and recovery copies use iOS complete file protection inside the app’s Application Support storage.
  • Attached photographs use the same file protection and are resized and re-encoded without their original image metadata.
  • The app obscures its field records when it moves out of the active foreground.
  • Location is requested only for a user-initiated “use current position” action; background location is not requested.
  • There is no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, tracking domain or Keeper’s Round web account in the current build.
  • PDFs are created locally and leave the app only through a sharing action chosen by the user.
  • A protected previous copy of each workspace is maintained to help recover from a damaged current save.

Apple services

MapKit provides map imagery and WeatherKit supplies current weather for a selected operational location. Optional Apple frameworks also provide camera and photo selection, local notifications, calendar editing, the system share sheet and device backup. Their operation is subject to the user’s Apple settings and Apple’s own security and privacy controls.

Important pilot limitations

  • The current operational store is local; it is not live-synchronised between keepers or devices.
  • An automatic recovery copy is not a user-controlled backup.
  • Inclusion in iCloud Backup or an encrypted computer backup depends on the user’s settings, and clean-device restoration still requires full pilot testing.
  • A portable in-app backup and restore workflow is not yet available.
  • The pilot should not be the only copy of an irreplaceable statutory or operational record.

Before team synchronisation

No real operational data will be uploaded to a Keeper’s Round collaboration service until the next-phase design has defined and tested authentication, membership and role controls, separation between organisations, encryption in transit and at rest, auditable activity, recovery and deletion procedures, and an incident-response process. The privacy policy and this page will be updated before that capability is offered to testers.

Using the app safely

  • Protect your device with a strong passcode and keep iOS updated.
  • Do not share screenshots, maps or exported reports with people who do not need them.
  • Review the sensitive-detail and photograph options before exporting a report.
  • Report a lost device through your organisation’s normal process and use Apple’s device-protection features where available.

Report a concern

If you discover a security or privacy issue, please avoid including real shoot coordinates or unnecessary personal data in your first message. Contact hello@keepersround.com with a brief description so we can arrange a safe way to receive further detail.
